Jon Rahm recently addressed the swirling rumors about his alleged “regret” over joining LIV Golf, firmly dismissing the claims. Rahm, who made headlines last December by leaving the PGA Tour for LIV despite his earlier criticisms of the Saudi-backed league, has made it clear that he stands by his decision.
The 2023 Masters Champion, who now leads his own team, Legion XIII, expressed his frustration over the unfounded rumors in a recent interview with the New York Post.
“There’s zero validity to any of that,” Rahm stated. “I don’t know where it came from, or why they need to say that some of us are unhappy when we’re not. It’s frustrating that these claims can be made with no truth behind them.”
Rahm’s transition to LIV Golf has had its challenges, especially at the start of the 2024 major championship season. He struggled at the Masters, finishing T-45, missed the cut at the PGA Championship, and had to withdraw from the U.S. Open due to a foot injury. However, his performance in LIV Golf has been impressive, with Rahm securing seven consecutive top-10 finishes to kick off the season. Although it took him a little time to find his stride, Rahm eventually clinched the LIV United Kingdom title.
Currently, Rahm holds the No. 1 spot in the individual race for LIV Golf and recently finished in the Top 10 at the Open Championship. Despite the initial challenges, Rahm is confident in his choice to join LIV Golf.
“I’m very, very eager for the future of my team and the league,” Rahm said. “I get to be a part of something very different from what we had in the past. I’ve always enjoyed being part of a team, and to be in charge of one now is something incredible.”
Rahm’s Legion XIII team is also performing well, sitting at No. 2 in the team standings with four wins already. The future looks bright for Rahm and his squad as they continue to make a strong impact in their debut year.
As the LIV Golf season progresses, Rahm has his sights set on winning the individual title, which comes with an $18 million bonus. The individual championship will take place at LIV Chicago from September 13-15 at Bolingbrook Golf Club, followed by the team championship event in Dallas from September 20-22 at Maridoe Golf Club.
